Rev. DMX?

Rapper DMX is crazy. Take for example this YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtFOjUHcA4Y . But there is something about DMX that makes me think he is special. He has this new reality show on BET called, DMX: Soul of a Man, in which cameras follow him around, giving us insight to who he really is. On his show, and in the previous clip, he talks about how his true calling is to be a preacher.

I knew DMX was different because he would always have a long prayer on his albums, amidst wild cursing and violent lyrics. Some people may look at him as bi-polar or schizophrenic but I think, that maybe, God
is talking to him. He could be one of those people who are in constant internal battle with what God wants them to do and with what they want for themselves. There are a bunch of "normal" people struggle with this same issue. So, with all of this said, do you take DMX serious when he says that his true calling is to be a preacher? Would you want to hear DMX preach a sermon? What would he have to do to convince you that he has become a man of God?

Yes, I think DMX is serious when he says he was called to be a preacher. Yes, I would listen to a sermon from DMX.

However, I need some things to change about DMX before he begins preaching. He can't be cussing in the middle of his sermons. Mattafact, if he's supposed to be a preacher, he doesn't need to be cussin' at all. And, yes, I know cussing words are words that we created and decided are "bad". But, a man of God needs to give off an image of godliness or conduct himself a certain way.

Christianity calls us to repent. When we repent, a change is supposed to take place. If no change takes place it says that nothing was wrong with us in the first place. So, yeah, if DMX repents and makes changes to become a better person in God's sight, I will listen to a sermon from him. I might even take notes.

LOL @ "However, I need some things to change about DMX before he begins preaching." and "He can't be cussing in the middle of his sermons." and "Mattafact"

I can't form a DMX concludsion yet. I honestly believe he is too complex for my limited understanding of who he is and what he sees and believes and why he refuses to get a cough drop to clear his throat, so its easier for me to not listen to him at all when he starts talking about faith. I know this may seem bad, but I only end up more confused after a DMX session, and that's not good, because it puts me in a situation where I have to fight making a judgement. And I don't want to judge something I don't understand.

LoL @ Gene's comment about the cough drop!

I'm sorry and I know yall are gonna say I'm judging or whatever but frankly i don't care.

I WOULD NEVER LISTEN TO A WORD HE EVER SAID DURING A SERMON.

That's like Paris Hilton being the Youth Director and Lil' Jon being the minister of music.

I knew Rell would say that. But Rell, can't people change?

I'm with KB- I also believe that DMX is serious when he says that he was called to be a preacher, and I would; at some point, listen to his sermons.

I think DMX finds it difficult to transition from who he is and where God is calling him to be, which is why we see the extremes on his albums and in his lifestyle. He also might be in a place where his support systems aren't helping him to be the best Christian he can be. And seriously, is DMX really the only person having this struggle of where God is calling you to be versus where you are? Or is it that he's just in a position where we can really visibly see that struggle taking place?

I think that when/if he repents, he will have an awesome testimony of all the things that God has brought him through, and that could help bring more souls to Christ.

sure they can change, but for me, personally, I need to see it. I know that calls into question my faith and all that -- but with people like that I need to see it before I'll listen to em'.

Yall are way to nice, lol.

Rell doesn't mean that. LOL. Because the truth is Rell probably HAS listened to sermons or just advice from people whose pasts (AND present) mirror DMX's - or have a WORSE past. He just doesn't know it. We don't know what people have done, are doing or will do when they aren't with us/haven't told us.

I'm soooo with Erin on this one. As someone whose walk was weakest when my support system was the least God-centered (I freaking hit kids. HIT A KIDS?!), I can feel where he's coming from. I just can't pay him much mind while he's still straddling the fence - and neither can God. It's seriously confusing for nonbelievers as well as those of us who want to know whether he's on our team or not. I need him to make up his mind.

It is so funny that this is the topic of for discussion because I have always been and always will be a DMX fan. I've been told on several occassions that I am probably his only fan and I thought I was the only one really watching his reality show. Glad to see I'm not.

I do agree that something is seriously wrong with my friend (especially after he put the raw eggs in the microwave at the gas station), but I think you summed it up by saying he is having an internal battle. I have been touched by the sincere side of DMX that this show allows us to see. When asked if I would take him seriously as a preacher, I have to think about what a preacher really is. A preacher is someone who gives a sermon. It doesn't say how or where the sermon must be given to qualify as a preacher. Some may see DMX's visit with the Mexican car racers as a sermon, which could make him a preacher. (I know that was a stretch, but you feel me!)

No, I cannot see DMX in anybody's pulpit without change as KB indicated, but I do see his testimony, his prayers, and his ministry to others as powerful. No, DMX may not be what I need to change my life or someone that I would flock to hear every Sunday, but I am sure that someone who may not listen to the old Baptist preacher at their Grandma's church may be ministered to through the words of DMX.

"I freaking hit kids." LOL. I was there, but I thought it was just one. Did you hit more?

Anyways, you all know my viewpoint, but then again, I can understand where Rell is coming from. It is hard for us as humans to believe someone has changed/can change when we haven't seen that person change. For most of us actions do speak louder than words.

On another note, this topic makes me think about this conversation me and KB had. I used to wonder why good people died and bad people lived. (I know both good and bad die, and that just because you do something wrong, that doesn’t make you a bad person, but just follow me for a second.) For example, in a drunk driving accident, often times the driver will live, while the passenger(s) and maybe other victims in another car die (Not that all drunk drivers are bad-lets not get caught up in semantics, look at the big picture). Or perhaps the innocent by-stander gets killed in a drive-by shooting and the shooter gets away.

Then one day I told KB I know why they live. They live because there has to be a chance for them to change and be redeemed. Just think that if you died whenever you did something wrong for the first time or even the second. Nobody would be here. There would be no need for Salvation or forgiveness. Jesus is the only person who didn’t make mistakes. As Christians, we are supposed to be more Christ-like, but we will never be Christ.

And so, with all of this said, nobody is perfect and I’m glad that God is God, “for all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard” (Romans 3:23).

RB, I hit the short, dark-skinned dude in Lenoir and the chubby, brown-skinned dude in the NC Museum of History.

*hanging head in shame while looking to my left and right fearing that someone will figure out my identity and press charges*

RJM, that's interesting. I agree with you that the formal structure of the churh - or even Christianity - does not have a monopoly on the term "to preach," so I guess in theory we all could "preach." But I think it is expected that those who "preach" - even us - live the lives that we preach about, and that is why some people may have issue with DMX - and other religious leaders for that matter. I think the human soul strongly desires to be preached to, but we want to know that our source is an authentic one.

And you're right - the truth is some folks ain't going to NOBODY'S 11 o'clock service. So how do we get the truth to them? We need unorthodox approaches. But we need righteous nontraditional approaches.

RB - feeling you on the second chance philosophy. Makes me think about what I want my legacy to be (i.e. NOT that of a child abuser).

Gene,

I'm sure I have to, but the fact that I can see DMX's on TV, or listen to an album, or watch a movie makes it even more less likely that I will listen to him.

I just ain't got time for that man...

I completely understand, Rell. If we run into a situation and DMX is preaching, I think I'll stop and listen for a minute. But if RB comes by to pick us up talmbout DMX is preaching at White Rock's youth revival, I'm not touchin' it ... at least not right now.

Don't put limits on what you eat as much as you do how much you are eating. Naturally, if you are not a morning person, setting your alarm for 5am to go run a few miles will probably fail. I am aware this seems enjoy ridiculous advice - Get real if you may possibly just flip a switch and enjoy exercise you would certainly, right.

Countless teenage parties have been spiced up by this funny little game, and countless adolescent mischiefs have

the chief feature of My - Space is that it's quick and easy enough to use that you can post a bulletin or check a friend's

Music: My - Space is indeed the friend of music, but it has close ties with the independent artists, who make up for what they lack in record contracts and money by being My - Space-strong, building a strong fan base and creating loyal street teams, which then take on a lot of the advertising on the band's behalf.
