Questions about depression
Why is it that we are conditioned to believe that when we're depressed, we should drink, smoke, have irresponsible sex, or over/under eat? What would happen if we were convinced to workout, to complete an act of community service, or to read a book when we're depressed? How would the world be different? How would people's lives be different? Just something to think about.

I don't think it's conditioning. I think self-destructiveness is hard to fight in the midst of depression.
Yeah I know when I am depressed there is temporary relief (escapism) in eating, drinking and smoking. However, for me their comes a point, when I realize that I am doing myself more harm and if I want to get out of the rut that I am in...instead of basking in it, I gotta do something else. Thats when I lace up the sneakers and go hiking. But getting to that point in the bout of depression is a process
So bouquet, if its not conditioning, then does that mean we're self destructive by nature?
tweezie, what happened for you to let you know that "I gotta do something else"?
