I am a huge Oprah fan. Im also a huge fan of supporting black businesses, black entertainment, etc. When I heard about the "beef" between Oprah and HipHop, I didn't know what to think or who to side with. After a little more investigating, I have to say that I side with Oprah.
So this beef supposedly started, correct me if Im wrong, after Ludacris criticized Oprah for: first, not wanting to invite him on the show to promote Crash, second, attacking him about his and other artists' lyrics, and third, for editing out his comments while on her show. His interview with GQ magazine sparked more lashing out against Oprah for not having HipHop artists on her show.
Well, Luda, what can I say? You should know Oprah is a huge feminist. She has been pushing this movement for women, especially young girls, to respect theirselves and be empowered. Many of today's HipHop artists contribute to reducing the woman to a sex object and help to facilitate a rape culture that exists in America. It would be counterproductive to have such artists on her show. Plus, half of the HipHop artists aren't talking about nothing:"GOOD googly moogly, that thang is juicy" or "Shake that laffy taffy."
Also, just because you're black, it doesn't mean that Oprah has to have you on her show. She doesn't owe you anything. Yes, Im sure it would be nice for you and your bank account to go on Oprah. Get over it. Ice Cube even argued, after he was denied several appearances, "She's had damn rapists, child molesters and lying authors on her show" . This is true, however, those guests acknowledged the error in their ways and were committed to changing.
Oprah has supported several HipHop artists such as Eve, Mary J., Kanye, Jaime Foxx, etc. To Luda and every other mad HipHop artist, stop talking about f**king, slapping a b**ch, smoking and dranking and write a song about something and maybe Oprah and her people will holla atcha.

1 - Oprah is a man hating, biased talk show host. She had SUPERHEAD on her show Ronda - SUPERHEAD!!! I barely think this former video vixen has traded in her former tactics of getting aHEAD in for a more "refined" lifestyle. But, Oprah let her tell her story. Why can't Ludacris and Ice Cube tell their stories? There's a reason why they call women the names they call them. Maybe they had mothers that didn't take care of them. Maybe they had aunts that abused them. Maybe they have cousins that pay no attention to their kids and burn them with irons (attribution Good Times). Why can't they tell their story? And so what if they call women names. Oprah portrays men as dogs, maniacs, and sex-crazed animals everyday. Man... Forget Oprah! (Comment this)

2 - I understand that everybody didn't have a happy childhood. Oprah didn't either and she has a reason to be a man hater; at least she is trying to make the situation better. Im sure Oprah can be proud of their rags to riches story, but she can't condone the degradation of women. She probably subconsciously (or consciously) links their music to the reason why she was abused. It is possible to tell your story without degrading women. (Comment this)

4 - She is not degrading men. She is telling her story and using it to help others. (Comment this)

5 - I'm not a big fan of Oprah always on the case of rappers -- but I'm also not a big fan of Luda complaining like a little boy about how he was treated and Ice cube for not being on the show.
That said, Summerreign you have to admit Oprah degrades men quite often. (Comment this)

6 - The problem I have with this entire situation is the hypocrisy. I believe Luda had a valid argument when he states that rapist, serial killers, and other menaces to society have been on the show. Maybe he does not have the strongest argument, but nonetheless a valid one. In addition, my real problem is the movie stars that Oprah has on her shows; Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Samuel Jackson, and many others (Haven’t seen them all on her shows but I assume at some point they have made appearances). All of the above names have been in movies where they have either shot up people, used drugs, pimped hoes and bitches, or stole money. What kind of message does this send to our youth and the impressionable members of today’s society? I believe that seeing these violent and horrendous acts on film is much worse than what any rapper could put on wax. Yes, rap lyrics are bad, I will give Oprah that. But guess what, its lyrics and that’s it. I do understand that a lot of our youth is impressionable and want to be what they hear on the radio or see in these videos, but there arises another problem, THE PARENTS. That is an issue I will not go into in the response. Anyways, I do think Oprah should give the rappers some slack but she really doesn’t have to, it is her show!!!

7 - KB, I don't believe you wrote that. Had I not seen it MYSELF and someone told me you wrote that, I would have said, "No he didn't! Not my KB!" As for Supahead, I don't know what she does behind closed doors, but she says that's over and she's on some whole woman power thing and THAT is what Oprah had her on there for - not because she was aHEAD of her time or aHEAD of the game or any of the other double entendres I can come up with.
"Also, just because you're black, it doesn't mean that Oprah has to have you on her show. She doesn't owe you anything." - RB
Amen. The bottom line is Oprah don't owe these mofos nothing. And I don't care how they try to justify it, a lot of what they rap about is downright unacceptable, so what would the show be about?! Should she REALLY have Young Joke on the show talking about his new project? And the whole "rapists, liars, whatever" line is ludicrous, Luda. That justifies nothing. He obviously hasn't seen the show and doesn't know what the shows were about. (Comment this)

8 - Wow... KB has a point... I'm not taking any sides. However, I must say that everyone, most times, must be held accountable for their actions. In the case of this dispute, Oprah has a right to be "selective" about who she may interview, as Luda (and other rap/hip hop artists) has a right to choose his lyrics. Generally, we (as human beings) are responsible for what we chose to be hypocritical about. In the end, it is you who will deal with the consequences of those actions. (Comment this)
